HIE 2026 "One University, One Book" Reading Promotion & "National Reading Week" Launched

On April 22, the launch ceremony for the 2026 "One University, One Book" Reading Promotion and "National Reading Week" was held in Assembly Hall No. 1. Zhang Xiaogang, University Council member and Vice President, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. More than 400 participants attended, including heads of the Party and Administration Office, Student Affairs Department, Academic Affairs Office, Graduate School, Youth League Committee, Trade Union, Library (Archives), Alumni Liaison Center, as well as deputy deans from various colleges and faculty and student representatives. The ceremony was hosted by Lu Shiguang, Deputy Director of the Library (Archives).

In his speech, Zhang Xiaogang noted that reading is an important pathway for inheriting civilization and enhancing personal development. HIE remains committed to fostering virtue through education, continuously building the "One University, One Book" brand, practicing the concept of ideological and political education, and striving to cultivate high-quality, application-oriented outstanding engineering talents. He emphasized that all departments should raise their political awareness, strengthen their sense of responsibility, and coordinate closely to form a powerful synergy of collective management and broad participation. He called for promoting the construction of a campus of readers with a rule-of-law mindset to improve quality and efficiency, and encouraged students to love reading, read quality books, and read well, striving to become a younger generation with ideals, abilities, and a strong sense of responsibility.

Liang Qiao, Secretary of the Youth League Committee, announced the provincial-level commendations for the 2025 "One University, One Book" Reading Promotion activities. The ceremony presented awards to the winning faculty and students. Huang Guangping, a representative of outstanding faculty advisors, issued a reading initiative, and Chen Simiao, a representative of award-winning students, shared her reading insights.

Following the launch ceremony, the "You Select Books, We Pay" and "Digital Resources Fair" activities were held in the library hall. The hall was bustling with students holding their selected books and lining up, while booths for various databases were surrounded by curious faculty and students. The ceremony concluded successfully amidst a rich atmosphere of books and joyful conversations, marking the full commencement of HIE's 2026 reading promotion efforts. In the coming days, the university will continue to roll out a variety of reading activities, making the fragrance of books truly the most touching hallmark of the HIE campus.
